1. The four-month monsoon season is officially ending on Monday, but it is unlikely that it will withdrawal in the coming week, Indian Meteorological Department Director General Mritunjay Mohapatra said. The monsoon season officially begins on June 1 and ends on September 30.

2. The Election Authority on Sunday announced the poll schedule for the election of chairpersons of Block Development Councils (BDC) in the 310 blocks of Jammu and Kashmir. The polling will be held on October 24. The notification for the election will be issued on October 1 while October 9 will be the last date for filing of nominations

3. Shiv Sena on Sunday announced its candidates for some seats for the Maharashtra polls scheduled for October 21

4. Election Commission on Sunday reduced Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang's disqualification period by almost five years under a provision of the electoral law, paving the way for him to contest the state assembly elections.

5. His disqualification period of six years, during which he was barred from contesting polls, began on August 10, 2018 -- the day he completed a year's jail term in a corruption case. It was to end on August 10, 2024.

6. The Kerala government on Sunday began the process for evicting residents of four illegal apartment complexes in Kochi, ordered to be demolished by the Supreme Court. 343 waterfront flats built in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone norms -- are located.

7. The Supreme Court on Friday had directed demolition of the apartment complexes within 138 days, a time-line given by the Kerala government, and asked the state to pay Rs 25 lakh interim compensation to each flat owner within four weeks.

8. Former Border Security Force jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav, who was dismissed in 2017 after he posted a video complaining about the quality of food served to the troops of the force, on Sunday joined the Dushyant Chautala-led Jannayak Janata Party and said he will contest the assembly polls against Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar

11. The new income tax rules pertain to TDS at the time of purchase of immovable property
They also include TDS on taxable life insurance proceeds and cash withdrawals beyond ₹1 crore. TDS on cash withdrawal: TDS @2% will be deducted by a banks or co-operative bank or Post Office on cash withdrawals by any person in excess of ₹1 crore in aggregate during the financial year.

12. TDS will be deducted at 1% if total consideration paid on transfer of immovable property, including payments such as club membership fees, maintenance fees, advance fees, car parking fees, electricity and water facility, exceeds ₹50 lakh.

13. Interchangeability of PAN and Aadhaar: Where a person’s Aadhaar number is linked to his PAN, he/she is free to quote his Aadhaar number instead of his PAN. And where a person has not been allotted a PAN, he/she can quote his Aadhaar number instead of PAN and such person shall be allotted a PAN.

14. The Indian Army has invited applications from  eligible male candidates for recruitment of Religious Teachers as Junior Commissioned Officers. Registration process for Junior Commissioned Officer (Religious Teacher) for Pandit, Granthi, Padri and Maulvi (Sunni) categories will be conducted online at joinindianarmy.nic.in.
Online registration for this Indian Army recruitment will open on September 30 and will be concluded on October 29.

15. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the deadline for filing of ITRs and Tax Audits Reports by a month.  Given the relentless demands by Chartered Accountants (CAs) and tax consultants, the CBDT has given a breather till October 31

1.    Americans mourn killing of first Sikh cop Lieutenant Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal in Texas. Dhaliwal, 42, who made national headlines when he was allowed to grow a beard and wear a turban on the job in the US state of Texas, was gunned down while conducting a mid-day traffic stop in northwest of Houston on Friday.

2. Texas senator Ted Cruz said the state was ‘mourning a hero’. In 2012, Washington DC became the first major US police force to make explicit accommodations for Sikhs to preserve their appearance on duty. An estimated 500,000 Sikhs live in the US as a whole.

3. Boris Johnson said on Sunday he would not quit as Britain`s prime minister even if he fails to secure a deal to leave the European Union, insisting only his Conservative government can deliver Brexit on Oct. 31.

4. At the beginning of his party`s annual conference in the northern English city of Manchester, Johnson wants to rally his party with a "do or die" message that he will deliver Brexit by the end of October, with or without a deal.

1. Hurt by BCCI Ethics Officer's notice, Shantha Rangaswamy resigns from Kapil Dev-led CAC:  Hours after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Ethics Officer D.K. Jain sent a notice to the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy with regards to allegations of conflict of interest, as claimed by MPCA life member Sanjeev Gupta, Rangaswamy has resigned from her position in the CAC.
