5. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday took a tough stand after the Maharashtra Assembly election result was declared. Addressing a press conference, the Sena chief stated that the time has come to implement the 50-50 formula that was previously decided with the BJP

6. Over 200 Independents were elected to the post of chairperson in the first-ever Block Development Council (BDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir, with the Bharatiya Janata Party winning in 81 of the 310 blocks

7. The Congress, the National Conference and the People's Democratic Party stayed away from the elections, the first after abrogation of the state's special status, because of continued detention of their leaders.

8. BJP and its allies on Thursday won 26 of the 51 assembly seats at stake in the bypolls across 18 states and the Congress emerged victorious in 12 constituencies while Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen tasted its maiden electoral success in Bihar.

9. Among the states ruled by the BJP and its allies, bypolls were held on Monday for the maximum 11 seats in Uttar Pradesh, followed by six in Gujarat, five in Bihar, four in Assam and two each in Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

10. The other states where bypolls were held are Punjab (4 seats), Kerala (5), Sikkim (3), Rajasthan (2) and one seat each in Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Puducherry, Meghalaya and Telangana.

11. Nagpur, the hometown of Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, turned out to be a tough electoral battleground for the Bharatiya Janata Party which could win just six of the 12 seats on offer in the district on Thursday. The BJP had won 11 of the 12 seats in Nagpur district in the 2014 assembly elections.

12. Nagaland peace talks to continue beyond October 31:National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM)'s army chief Anthony Shimray confirmed that the Naga peace talks will continue beyond October 31.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. India, Pakistan sign Kartarpur corridor agreement, online registration for pilgrims begins

2. The agreement will remain in force for 5 years and it can be extended by mutual consent. The agreement can be terminated by either side by giving one month's notice. The operation of the corridor can be suspended if a persistent violation of the agreement happens and all differences will be resolved through diplomatic channels

3. The corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district of Punjab. Kartarpur Sahib gurudwara was established in 1522 by Sikh faith founder Guru Nanak Dev.

4. PM Modi will inaugurate the Indian side of Kartarpur corridor on November 9, while his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan will inaugurate the project from Pakistan's side on the same day

4. India on Thursday called as "naked propaganda" Islamabad taking a group of foreign diplomats to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir after India's artillery fire targeting several terror launch pads along the Line of Control in Kashmir.

5. The External Affairs Ministry also cautioned foreign governments against activities of "Kashmir cells" set up by Pakistan in its missions across the world, saying the main objective of the new entities is to radicalise people through false propaganda.


6.   British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told European Council President Donald Tusk on Wednesday he did not want another Brexit delay, confident he could still get a deal through parliament by Oct 31

7. The Chinese scientists are constructing a huge cosmic ray observation station that is equivalent to 200 soccer fields in Sichuan province. The observatory is located 4,400 meters above sea level.
