CURRENT AFFAIRS

1. PM Modi on Tuesday said the economy is showing "green shoots" as the country emerges from the coronavirus lockdown and asserted that the fight against the pandemic is a fine example of cooperative federalism where the Centre and the states are working together.


2. On Wednesday, the prime minister will interact with chief ministers of 15 states, including Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and the LG of Jammu and Kashmir. These are the states where coronavirus cases are on a much higher side.


3. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Monday night's clash as well on the overall situation in eastern Ladakh after he held a high-level meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat and the three service chiefs.


4 . Three terrorrists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.


5. Middle seats on flights won't be empty anymore: The Bombay high court on Monday allowed all flight operators to allow passengers to occupy middle seats in flights, but said they should strictly comply with guidelines of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

9. Vistara Set To Return Ex-Jet Airways Boeing 737 to lessor GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS).  Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines,. It seeks to return the aircraft as a means of reducing costs.



INTERNATIONAL CURRENT AFFAIRS


1. The Indian and Chinese armies are engaged in the standoff in Pangong Tso, Galwan Valley, Demchok and Daulat Beg Oldie in eastern Ladakh.  Chinese Army personnel even transgressed into the Indian side of the de-facto border in several areas including Pangong Tso.


2. Clashed on the night of 15/16 June 2020. 17 Indian troops who were critically injured in the line of duty at the stand-off location and exposed to sub-zero temperatures in the high altitude terrain have succumbed to their injuries.  Involving fatalities after a gap of 45 years and signalling a massive escalation in the five-week border standoff in the sensitive region


3. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has, meanwhile, said that China  tried to unilaterally change the status and departed from the consensus to respect the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Galwan Valley, which led to serious physical conflict.

  

4. The  India lost an army officer and two soldiers during the violent face-off on Monday evening, while there were casualties on the Chinese side as well. The officer matryed in the clash is Colonel Santosh Babu, Commanding Officer of the 16 Bihar regiment, while the two soldiers were K Palani and OJha. This is the first fatal clash since 1975 between India and China, 


5. Two officials of Indian High Commission in Pakistan, who were released by the authorities in Islamabad on Monday after a day-long arrest, were thrashed and forced to confess that "they were involved in an accident", according to sources.


6. Two Indian staffers who are working as drivers in the Indian High Commission were picked up by around 15 to 16 armed persons at around 8:30-45 hours from a petrol station close to the High Commission, according to sources. They were then blindfolded with a rucksack over their heads and handcuffed.


7. Under Vande Bharat mission 1672 expatriates  reached Kochi in Kerala  from Gulf countries, Moscow, Egypt and Maldova.


8. UK  PM Boris Johnson to establish a commission to look at racial equality in the country


9. Indonesia confirmed 1,106 new coronavirus infections and 33 more deaths on Tuesday, taking the number of cases past the 40,000 mark


 

SPORTS CURRENT AFFAIRS


1. Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings on Tuesday conceded that this year's T20 World Cup amid the COVID-19 pandemic seems "unrealistic" as it will be difficult to fly in 16 teams to the country.


2. The ICC Men's T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held from October 18 to November 15 2020
