* India one of the largest investors in Sri Lanka with cumulative investments of around 1.239 billion USD

* India also one of the largest contributors to Foreign Direct Investment in Sri Lanka

* The 2 countries share historical and
civilizational links like Buddhism and
Ramayana dating back several millennia.

* India Sri Lanka Foundation was set up in December intergovernmental initiative to enhance cooperation through people to people ties.

* India formally launched the E- Tourist Visa Scheme for Sri Lankan tourists in April 2015 

* Sri Lankan airline is also the largest foreign carrier in India operating over 100 flights per week to 14 destinations in India.


Comprehensive economic cooperation
• Bilateral trader has received impetus ever since the India and Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement came into force. Further, Sri Lanka has always been a key destination for direct investment from India.

Shared history, modern context 
• The synergy between India and Sri Lanka is fortified by the activities of the Indian Cultural Centre in Colombo, which offers classes in Indian music, dance, Hindi and Yoga; thus enhancing people to people outreach. 

Partnering across a broad spectrum
• From collaboration in sectors of education to harnessing solar energy, India and Sri Lanka cooperation runs deep and wide.
