Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-DYK

Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)

PSLV is the third generation launch vehicle of India. It is the first Indian launch vehicle to be equipped with liquid stages.

It has 4 stages which uses solid and liquid fuels. The First and third stage use solid fuel while the second and fourth stage use the liquid fuels.

It is designed to deliver earth-observation or remote sensing satellites with lift-off mass up to about 1700 kg to sun-synchronous polar orbits of 600-900 km altitude.

It is also used to launch the satellites of lower lift-off mass of up to about 1400 kg to the elliptical Geosynchronous orbit.

PSLV has successfully launched two spacecraft – Chandrayaan-1 in 2008 and Mars Orbiter Spacecraft in 2013.
