Indian Navy receives first multi-purpose vessel “Samarthak” The Navy has received Samarthak, built by L&T. It will support maritime surveillance, reconnaissance and testing of weapons and sensors.
On August 27, 2026, the Indian Navy received "Samarthak," its first indigenous multi-purpose vessel (MPV), built by L&T Shipyard in Kattupalli. The ₹887-crore project features over 75% indigenous content to support surveillance, testing, and fleet operations.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, performed the Bhoomi Pujan for T-Series Tanks Overhaul Project at Vehicle Factory, Jabalpur -- a unit of Mini Ratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) on Thursday.
The project involves the creation of overhauling facilities for T-72 and T-90 Tanks with an estimated cost of Rs 472 crore, another milestone in the nation’s journey towards self-reliance.
