1. *PM Narendra Modi* inaugurates the *1st Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) Parliamentary Conference* in *Delhi* on the occasion of *Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.* The day is celebrated every year to mark the *contribution of the overseas Indian community in the development of India.*
It also commemorates the *return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa* to *Mumbai* on *9 January 1915.*
2. *India’s fastest and first multi-petaflops (PF) supercomputer* named *"Pratyush"* was unveiled at Pune-based *Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).*
The supercomputer has been named as *‘Pratyush’ meaning Sun.*
It will help India with *better forecasts* in terms of *monsoon, extreme events, cyclones, tsunamis, earthquakes, air quality, lightning, fishing, hot and cold waves, flood and drought among others.*
3. *Bihar CM Nitish Kumar* conferred the *1st Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Award* for *Probity in Politics and Public Life* at an official function in the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
4. *AR Rahman* was named the *official brand ambassador* of the north eastern state of *Sikkim.*
5. *Gujarat* topped the *logistics index chart,* according to a Report released by Union Minister for Commerce & Industry *Suresh Prabhu* in New Delhi. Gujarat is followed by *Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra* on the index.
6. *Iran* banned the teaching of *English* in *primary schools* after Islamic leaders warned that learning the language opened the way to a *Western 'cultural invasion'.*
7.World’s largest Ice Festival *'International Ice and Snow Festival'* was held in *Harbin, China.* It is the *34th annual Ice Festival* in Harbin, north-east China.
